Preparing to Leave

The countdown is on. Two more days and we'll be flying out to NYC for three days of museums and plays.

I've started my list of what to see in the museums. I have to start with those artists I consider my "friends." I have been fortunate to see these artists in other museums and have reproductions of their work in my home and/or office.

But I am also looking forward to new experiences:

  • The Met's exhibit about Jan Gossart's work.
  • Learning about three significant photographers of the Twentieth Century: Stieglitz, Steichen, and Strand (the Met).
  • The Guggenheim's exhibit "Vox Populi: Posters of the Interwar Years."
  • The MoMA's exhibits "Abstract Expressionist New York" and "Counter Space: Design and the Modern Kitchen."

Thankfully, my students are also adding to the list, bringing to my attention other great works to experience. They are just getting started on this list, so I'll be updating it as I go:

  • Fernand Leger's The Smokers, found in the Guggenheim.
  • Louis Comfort Tiffany's stained glass Autumn Landscape, found at the Met.
